Zipscreens FAQ's

Can zipscreens be used as a break against strong winds?

External blinds are not designed to withstand strong wind. It is recommended to draw them and secure them in the event of a storm or high winds - consult your supplier for specific guidance.

Can zipscreens be used for areas that are out of square?

Some zipscreens include a side adjustment that can help with any issues associated with areas that are not properly aligned/out of square. Check the measurements and features of the zipscreen before buying.

How do I maintain my zipscreen?

Your zipscreen should be cleaned regularly (at least every 3 months) to clear any dirt, dust and grime. Clean with a soft brush and pay close attention to build-ups of dirt and dust in the side channels. Aluminium can be cleaned with warm, soapy water or a mild detergent applied with a cloth. Avoid oil-based cleaners as these can add to dirt build-ups in the side guides, as well as damage some fabrics.

How does the fastening system operate?

The fastener and the fabric are welded together and fed into the side rails. This allows for smooth operation up and down the guides, providing stability and protection for your outdoor blinds.

How big can zipscreens be?

External roller blinds can have a total area of 14m². This means a maximum width of 5.8m and a maximum drop of 4m. If you have a larger space than this, seek professional advice.

What colour options are there?

The standard colours for the fittings include 6 options:

  • Classic cream.
  • Pure white.
  • Natural anodised.
  • Woodland grey.
  • Black.
  • Monument.

You can also choose a custom colour for the hardware to make it match your existing decor. You will need to consult the shade cloth supplier as it is sold separately.

Where can zipscreen blinds be used?

They are most commonly used as outdoor patio blinds. You can install them on balconies, verandas and other areas designated for outdoor entertaining - they can even be used as pergola blinds. Many people use them as outdoor window coverings for a chic alternative to awnings or shutters. This prevents the heat of the sun from reaching the window pane, thus maintaining a cooler temperature in the home.

Where can I buy zipscreen blinds?

There are various retailers around Australia that sell zipscreen blinds. Four Seasons Shutters and Blinds supply and install premium quality blinds throughout Shellharbour and the surrounding regions.

What makes zipscreens so good?

Zipscreens can make an outdoor area pleasant and comfortable throughout the year. They help you stay cool in the summer and trap the heat when the weather is cooler. They can also create a barrier between you and the insects and inclement weather. Their key benefit is that they reduce your reliance on heating and cooling technology, keeping the sectioned-off area comfortable whilst reducing your need to use energy-consuming equipment.
